The MARS system is available for patients with liver failure and has been used in clinical trials in the U.S. and Europe for various conditions including “acute on chronic” liver failure, a situation where chronic liver disease becomes acute through a precipitating event such as an infection.
The MARS system is compatible with standard hemodialysis machines and CRRT-devices. Features of dialysis and CRRT-machines are useable. MARS demands a minimum staff involvement before and during treatment.
